Description of workshop. Participants will make a fused glass bowl by mixing glass powder “frit” with a liquid medium and then “paint” a pattern or scene on a flat, clear 10” circular piece of fusible glass, using several methods and/or implements. After their piece is dry, I will fire it in my kiln at my studio. They will choose a mold in which to slump or shape their piece and it will be fired again in the kiln.
Participants may pick up their piece the following Saturday at GAL from 11am – 1pm.
Participants must be at least 14 years old (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult also paying for the workshop). Lunch may be brought with them or ordered individually. No glass experience needed – no cutting, soldering or grinding.
All materials will be provided by the instructor – Clear circular glass base, glass powders in 15- 20 colors, brushes, spoons, wooden tools, plastic cups to hold powders,
Supplies Needed – Paper towels wear old clothes or bring an apron
About the Instructor
Barb has always had a fascination with how light reflects through the varied colors of glass. With a BFA in Studio Art History and an MFA in Interior Design, art and design has been an integral part of her life. She started oil painting at age 15 and considers some of her recent work to be “painting with glass.”
She began her venture into Stained Glass artwork over 40 years ago; then when Covid hit, she was forced to take a hiatus from teaching at the Art Institute of Houston. She soon found an incredible media to work with in Fused Glass. Over decades of refining her glass cutting, grinding and compositional techniques, Barb’s experience and knowledge of the glass medium has been invaluable in honing her fusing skills. www.designsanewglassart.com
