“Retrospective: 50+ Years of Photography”

I have been taking photographs for over 50 years, starting when I was arts editor on my college newspaper and continuing until today. The oldest photo in this collection was taken in 1959 with a simple point-and-shoot Kodak film camera, and the latest was taken earlier this year with my Android cellphone.

In spite of my love of taking photos of birds and flowers and other images from the natural world, my favorite photos, those I have carefully protected from damp and bright lights and the gnawing of silverfish, have always been those that might be used to illustrate a story. Who lived in this house years ago? Who lives there now? What happened here? What will happen next? Who created this, and why?

Digital photography is nice. It certainly is less expensive to use than film and the quality of cellphone cameras allows excellent images to be captured at will. But there is something about film photography that I love and miss. I had to include an assortment of my film photos in this exhibit just to give them another, and perhaps last, chance to be on display.
