Lisette McClung is an artist who loves to travel and looks for beauty in scenes that connect her to a place or person. She grew up in Virginia, but has lived in the Houston area since 1990. Even after thirty-two years, she still misses the Virginia fall season with its patches of bright autumn foliage and rolling hills. One of her fondest childhood memories is sorting out the patterns of colors and shapes seen in these Virginia landscapes as her parents drove through the countryside.
Influenced by these recollections, Lisette looks for ways to arrange the colorful patterns she sees in her travels and everyday life in a variety of different media. She not only uses oil paint to layer her bold brushstrokes of color to capture the rich patterns and rhythms in her plein air painting, but in her mixed media pieces she creates handmade collage papers using various printmaking processes to design one of a kind patterns. She then paints over these collage papers with acrylic or oil to create her vision.
Lisette has her B.F.A. in painting from Tulane University in New Orleans, and her M.A. in Humanities/ Studio Art from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. After teaching for 22 years, she recently retired from teaching high school art for Clear Creek ISD. Her love of learning and adventure inspires her to seek out opportunities to paint en plein air with friends and capture special moments as she explores her journey as an artist.
Lisette has been juried into several prestigious Plein Air Competitions including; Shadows on the Teche 2022, En Plein Air Texas 2022, and Southwest Plein Air 2022. She has also received several first place and honorable mentions at the Galveston Art League, and second place and honorable mentions at the Texas City Arts Festival.
