Member Show Featuring Sara Nygard

October 3 – October 27, 2024

About the Artist

Living in the USA, let alone Texas, was never on Sara Nygard’s bucket list. Nor was being an artist. Yet, here she is, painting in League City since 2018 and a member of Cowgirl Artists of America, specializing in American western art, since 2022.

Sara Nygard earned a BFA in Fine Art Photography in Finland 1997 and is currently focused on painting in acrylics, oil and watercolor. Photography and painting are her ways of studying and embracing new places and cultures. She likes to read about history and myths and often includes these concepts in her paintings, mixing them in with existing sceneries and objects she finds interesting to paint.

The collection of works displayed at the Art League is Sara’s virtual road trip through Texas and the Southwest. Another red thread going through the works is the color pink; representing playfulness, dreams, optimism and resilience. All very descriptive qualities of the painted sceneries and the mood Sara wants her works to convey. She thinks art, especially in a home, should evoke uplifting emotions.

On a more serious note, October is Breast Cancer Month and the first week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, both affecting so many of us directly and indirectly. Every year, Sara makes a point to raise awareness and this year, in memory of her mother and youngest brother, a share of any sold works will be donated to research.

Thank you for joining the road trip, hope you enjoy it.
